Professor Martyn Caplin has a special interest in general gastroenterology, upper and lower GI endoscopy, peptic ulcer disease, IBS, celiac disease and abnormal liver function. He has an international reputation in the field of intestinal cancers including neuroendocrine (carcinoid) tumours.He has just been elected chairman of the European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society and is the immediate past chairman of the National Cancer Research Institute Neuroendocrine Tumour Committee as well as immediate past chairman of the UK & Ireland Neuroendocrine Tumour Society. He has a large research programme investigating the effect of intestinal hormones on the gut, new therapies for neuroendocrine tumours and HPB tumours. Between 2007 and 2012 he was the NHS clinical lead for the National Library for Health under the auspices of NICE for evidence based practice in Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases.Professor Caplin is also a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Royal Free Hospital in North London and Professor at University College London Medical School.
