Dietetics

The Dietetic service is available for all inpatients and outpatients during their treatment. The Dietetic Department has 3 full time Registered Dietitians (2 Senior Dietitians and a Head of Dietetics), all of whom are qualified Registered Dietitians who hold current registration with the Health Professions Council (HPC), are members of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) and are Registered Providers with medical insurance companies.

The aim of the service is to ensure that referred patients' nutritional status or symptoms are monitored, maintained or improved wherever possible, during the demands of their treatment. The Dietitian will give advice and support to ensure that the nutrition available to patients is adequate, acceptable and appropriate for their needs.

Registered Dietitians have the professional knowledge and experience to establish nutritional needs and to recommend appropriate nutritional treatment for referred patients. Goals or care plans for nutritional or dietetic treatment will be realistic and agreed with the patient, or their carers.

Dietitians work co-operatively with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to integrate the patients' nutritional treatment into their over-all care. Dietitians will evaluate and monitor dietetic intervention to help ensure a positive effect on patients' nutritional status, aid the recovery process, control symptoms and improve wellbeing.

A Nutrition & Dietetic Service is available:
- for referred inpatients: Monday to Friday 0900 - 1700.
- for referred outpatient appointments: Monday to Friday 0930 - 1600
