Launched in 2010 The Wellington Appeal focuses fundraising efforts on two charities, The British Red Cross and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). In 2014 the team achieved their £1 Million target and voted to continue until they reached the new target of £2 Million.
The British Red Cross
The money we raise will have an immediate and dramatic effect on the lives of many children, orphans who already live in indescribable poverty in South Africa. There are literally tens of thousands of orphaned children in sub-Saharan Africa whose lives have been devastated by the death of parents who have succumbed to HIV/Aids. The British Red Cross is helping to rebuild their lives and give them a future.
Back here in the UK there are 350,000 children who are living with the constant dangers and discomfort of type 1 diabetes. The second charity we have chosen is the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, (JDRF), the charity which exists to find the cure for type 1 diabetes. JDRF is the world’s leading charitable provider of funds for type 1 diabetes research. For 30 years it has been fundamentally involved in the delivery of advances in this field and the charity also provides practical support and information for families affected by the condition.
Two great causes; two great charities; but both need your help to make life better for these young people. After reaching our £1 Million target in 2014 fundraising efforts continued and it was decided that we should aim for a new target of £2 Million!
