Biography
Mr David Sweetnam qualified as a doctor in 1987 from Middlesex Hospital Medical School, University College London. Subsequent to that he underwent Orthopaedic training initially at The Royal United Hospital in Bath and was later appointed to The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Registrar Training Scheme. Having gained his Orthopaedic Specialist qualification in 1995, he subsequently undertook a Specialist Fellowship in Australia, dealing with predominantly joint replacements and Sports Injuries. He took up the post of Orthopaedic Consultant at The Whittington Hospital in February 1999 and now practices General Orthopaedic Surgery within this busy department.

Within Orthopaedic Surgery, Mr Sweetnam has developed a particular interest in all aspects of knee surgery including joint replacement and Sports Injuries. However, as a result of his continued arthroscopic interest, he has been able to maintain sub special interest in arthroscopic shoulder surgery.

While he has maintained a practice in general orthopaedics and trauma in the Health Service, his private practice is exclusively involved with knee surgery. He has been a member of The Wellington Knee Unit since 1998. His interests within the knee surgery include cartilage and ligament injuries and modern techniques to deal with cartilage damage. He is actively involved in research dealing with autologous chondrocyte transplantation.
