Dr Stuart Harris is a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at The Wellington Hospital and at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre and Medical Director at Southend Hospital and Deputy Chief Medical Officer at Mid and South Essex NHS Foudation Trust (NHS). He has a specialist interest in arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat), catheter ablations and implantable ICDs and pacemakers.
After qualifying from St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College in 1995 he completed his cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology training in London and Edinburgh. He was initially appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist at St Bartholomew's Hospital in 2005 before he took up a post as a Consultant Cardiologist & Electrophysiologist at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre in 2007 and in 2013 he was made the department's Clinical Director. He is also the arrhythmia lead for the Essex Cardiac and Stroke Network. In 2020 he took up the post of Medical Director of Southend Hospital and the Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
He is actively involved in clinical research on Atrial Fibrillation, the use of implantable devices in the treatment of Heart Failure and the effects of pacing on heart function. He is a Council Member and Treasurer of the British Heart Rhythm Society.
